Have you ever experienced a situation where no matter how you felt, looked or spoke, you felt like yourself? Your true authentic self? Probably not. And that’s not surprising.
And the reason why you don’t feel like you are enough and valid is maybe because we are always taught that the grass is always greener on the other side. And that despite being a pro at something there is always scope for something grander. Something greater for you to aim for. We’re always told that the other is better. No matter the situation we are in, we are always doing something to get out of it. To feel something else. We’re always distracting ourselves from our feelings and emotions because they’re not good enough.
From the early times we were always looking for ways to improve our quality of life. And that quest for more combined with society and its unrealistic standards for happiness and success makes us believe that we are not enough and valid.
Living in alignment, being in the moment, noticing how you feel and acknowledging it without any judgment and just simply being without having the need to manage every last detail. Without the dissatisfaction or the need to be or to feel something else. This is the basic idea behind meditation and mindfulness practices. They help you stay in the present moment, the moment in which we are actually living. Rather than constantly obsessing over the what if’s –“If I do this I feel this/get this/done this I would have been in a better place.”All these are lies that society has been telling itself because that’s how they view success and gratification. But that is not the case since the true potential lies in the now. To this very moment where the flow has bought you. To experience the now, to be in it, to live in it, is so so important. Especially today where everything is so fast paced and being busy is apparently the best place to be. The constant pressure to have it all, to know it all and to be it all. In such a state of constant hustle we sometimes forget that there is a voice inside you screaming out answers to all of your problems but you are too focused on the other thing to hear it.
If you Google the different ways to feel inspired, motivated or to succeed, almost every result will ask you to do something immersive like journaling, mediating, exercising, reading, writing or making art. While doing these activities you are forced to be in the present moment. The stillness and wholeness of it is what we crave but never seem to find no matter how hard we try. But we all go back to these every time we need inspiration.
We are always stuck between the worries of the past and fear of the future that we forget that the greatest potential for life exists in the now. Living in the present, mindfulness or whatever you want to name,is the bridge that will take you to a much better place.
In pursuit of greater happiness and prosperity we often forget that we have it already and that is the experience of living in the now!
Here is a list of a few resources that have helped me understand the importance of staying present and figure out how to do it:
