It’s 2023 already and I realized I haven’t said a proper goodbye to 2022 yet. If you haven’t guessed it already, this post is a sort of sit down with me/ a chatty blog. Where we say goodbye to 2022 together and discuss the lessons this past year has taught us. So grab your tea cup (and a notebook if you wanna chronicle your past year with me) and let’s get the recap started.
Ah! 2022! What a year it has been. It simultaneously feels like a super short year and super long year. How does that work? I am not sure 🤷🏻♀️ (but it’s time to take your journal out:) Let’s go through the highlights of 2022, shall we? For starters I spent my birthday alone and away from family for the very first time and took so many drives. Skipped class to get another tattoo, found a perfect spot to stargaze, finalized a topic for my master’s thesis and actually completed it before time?!!, visited a sunflower field, found a home in another city, wrote and published a book in under 21 days!! (go buy it. it’s called <letters to the sky>) Survived an accident, moved back home, graduated with a master’s degree, got eye surgery, got my first job, completely burnt out and started therapy (finally!!). Quit my job, started reading again and got out of my art block!! Danced in front of 3oo+ people and found my best selfie angle XD This past year has been a super eventful one. How was it for you?
Phew! That was a lot. Got to take a sip of water before we go on. Let’s see what lessons has 2022 taught us? To begin with it taught me the importance of open and honest conversations, to hug and say i love you to everyone that matters (that includes you dear reader, thank you and ily for all the support <3), it’s okay to say no and take breaks for your social battery, its okay to quit your job, it’s not okay to skip meals and it’s absolutely necessary to do things outside of your comfort zone. What lessons has 2022 taught you?
Even though 2022 left me with a major identity crisis, there are quite a few things that I am grateful for. I am thankful that I made it through this year alive. I am grateful for all my friends. This year would have been hell without y’all. I am thankful for my family and cousins and all the fun we’ve had this past year. I am grateful for my art and books and the sky for always being there no matter if I was reaching out or not you’ve always been there. I am so so grateful to have started therapy, it’s been so helpful in understanding myself and why I work/think the way I do and manage my emotions better. What are you grateful for?
Despite all of that, there have been a few things I wasn’t able to do in 2022. Maintaining a consistent exercise routine (yes, nutritionists struggle with being consistent too! I mean we are humans), spending enough time with parents, being consistent with posting on here or on my art page, reading enough despite the number of books I bought, spending time caring for the plant babies and protecting my boundaries. What all weren’t you able to get done?
One last thing to do before we set our journals aside. Let’s set a motto for this New Year. A motto is like a mantra, an affirmation to remind yourself to keep going. My motto for 2023 is “you do not yield”. It’s a phrase from one of the books I had previously read. It essentially means that I should not give in or give up on my goals for 2023. Come what may I will keep trying to get things done, to keep improving and learning. What’s your motto going to be?
That’s it for this recap. It was a nice tea time activity to do with you. Hope you liked it too. Would you like to see more of these chatty activity blogs? Let me know in the comments.
Until next time, keep #growwiththeflow
