A year of trial and error, among other things: 2023 Recap

I have been a science student all my life, hell I even have a Masters in Science! What does that even have to do with this blog you ask? Well, the answer is in the title itself: Trial and error. šš
According to the Cambridge dictionary, trial and error means āa way of achieving an aim or solving a problem by trying a number of different methods and learning from the mistakes that you makeā. And that my friends is how this year 2023 has been for me, literally in every aspect of my life. (Shoutout if you recognize the title and this blog series, then you are the BEST!!! You know the drill with these chatty blogs, you also get to journal with me. So go grab a pen and paper, letās spill the tea XD) If there is one word/phrase that you can use to describe YOUR 2023 what would it be?
Letās answer your next big question (even though you technically didnāt ask XD): what did I do my trial and error in? To be very real and honest with you, it was every area of my life. In my career, I tried my hand as a demo preschool teacher, a college lecturer, I conducted challenges as a nutritionist, created 1:1 programs, landed my first client, got paid directly for my work, applied for 20,000 different jobs and never heard back, I decided to pursue my freelance career full time as a solopreneur, took courses to work on upskilling, met like minded people. GoShhhh now that I have actually written things down it feels like a lot. But also it feels like nothing productive has happened this whole year. In my social life, I watched my dear friend move abroad to study, I watched another get married!, another moved cities, my sister started COLLEGE (Like what?!!). In my personal life, I did things that my 5 year old self would appreciate (singing loudly in my car, made 5 new playlists, dressed up for the barbie movie, yelled my lungs out at the eras tour movie, to name a few) , I worked on feeling my feelings rather than pushing them into a bag, I figured out old patterns that were no longer serving me and trial and errored ways to create new better patterns and coping mechanisms. Now itās your turn, what big and small things have you done this year in each area of your life?
Now I know not many people can afford this type of life, where they can just take a year off and do whatever they want to do and actually have the support of your friends and family, while youāre at it. And if there is one emotion that was constant during this year it was gratitude and not to mention the confusing nature of being in your 20s! Starting out on your own and figuring out every small and big aspect of business as a solopreneur is confusing, grueling, rewarding, and exhausting, all at once! Itās nothing short of a roller coaster. Some days you feel like youāre on top of the world, like you have everything figured out and the very next day getting out of bed is a pain and everything you thought you figured out the previous day goes straight to the dust bin. What makes this even harder is when you have a weird (but apparently normal) combination of people pleasing, hyper-independence, perfectionist tendencies and love to overthink everything! Now imagine having to be the boss AND employee to such a person. That was literally how my year looked likeš«±š½āš«². What is the one emotion or feeling that was constant for you this year?
Okay, now that we have reflected on our past year letās close it off with a little manifesting/vision boarding style activity. Write a letter to your current self (i.e, 2023 december you) from your future self (i.e., 2024 december you). But write it in the past tense. Describe every goal, every resolution,, every trip, every outing, every promotion that you want to do in 2024; but write it like it has already happened, like you have done it all and are wiser. Give your 2023 self advice or reassurance or anything you want to tell yourself. Lastly, sign it saying: Love your future self. Read this letter whenever you feel lost in 2024 to remind yourself of everything that you have set out to achieve this new year. šš½
Anywho, Happy New Year, you guys and Happy (rest of the) Holidays and all the best to everyone who has exams coming up āØ
